"A man has at least a start at discovering the real meaning of life when he plants a shade tree under which he will never sit."

- Eldon Trueblood

Notable trees for planting:

Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) - This tree species, originally thought to have been extinct, dates back to the end of the Mesozoic era - some 130 million years ago.  With this seemingly immortal species, let the memory of your loved one endure. This deciduous conifer's shape can be described as a thin, pyramidal with light, twiggy branches. Its foliage, needlelike and feathery texture, holds its light green color before turning tan, sometimes tinged with pink, then to shades of amber before dropping off in late autumn.

Blue Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica Grauca) - This evergreen grows into a pyramidal-shaped tree reaching sixty feet in height.  As it matures, its crown expand outward up to thirty-five feet.  Needles are a light blue-gray one-inch long, getting their color from wax deposits which help them retain moisture.  Native to the Atlas Mountains spanning across Morocco and Algeria.

Copper Beech (Fagus sylvatixa) - This European beech, also called Copper Beech, is a gigantic shade tree producing tiny nuts.  Because of its beautiful silvery smooth bark and leaves, this tree is often planted as an ornamental.

Silky Camellia (Stewartia malacondrendron) - This is a rare southeastern deciduous species known for waxy white flowers with dark purple centers which blossom in mid-summer and dure until fall.  The bark is lightly-striped cinnamon color.

Paperbark Maple
(Acer griseum) - Their beautiful autumn color is the outstanding feature of these native Chinese trees.  Its beautiful cinnamon colored bark is revealed as the outer layer of bark peels away.  The tree is a relatively small tree, maturing to an average of twenty-five feet in height.

Red maple (Acer rubrum) - is one of the most abundant and widespread hardwood trees in North America. Probably no other species of forest tree, certainly no hardwood, can thrive on a wider variety of soil types and sites.   Mature trees commonly average between 20 and 30 inches in diameter and 60 and 90 feet tall.  During the spring and summer the leaves are a bright green, but they turn red for the remainder of the year.  The early settlers used its bark for the production of dyes and inks.
